On the other there it illustrates the amplified effects a typo can have. In that regard, unwanted Tweets is minor compared to what one University of Florida student found googling himself: http://www.wtsp.com/news/to...

Re: Leslie Nielsen and Irvin Keshner

New blog post: Leslie Nielsen and Irvin Keshner http://www.nickanstead.com/...

Re: A very modern media tale

New blog post: A very modern media tale http://www.nickanstead.com/...

Re: The internet and the development of the language

Bah, paywall! Sounds like an interesting interview, Nick.

You're right about specialist words being more widely diffused.

Syntax is changing too. Online readers scan for meaning, and refuse to have anything irrelevant "pushed" at them. Therefore subjects need to be up front at the beginnings of sentences, paragraphs and headlines.

Instead of "who", "what", "when", "where" and "why", readers online often want "what" and "so what?"

Re: Some news: moving on

Having my finger on the pulse of all things UEA I hadn't actually realised until today that you were heading off to pastures new. Indeed it is all well and good that Griffin took what was nothing short of an utter drubbing from start to finish, but who did he take it from? I don't think it would be too harsh to suggest that with it being filmed in a particuarly cosmopolitan part of West London; and the audience appearing to mirror that same social make up, that many who voted BNPwill simply see it as further example of 'guardian reading/sandal wearing/lential eating/london biased/political corectness gone mad advocates/ any other loosely derogatory label heaped upon those who may be inclined to lean towards a liberal/leftist/cosmopolitan viewpoint' (delete as applicable) folk continuing to patronise them whilst overlooking certain problems, that they, for whatever ever misguided reason feel exist, and have thus caused them to feel a need to support the BNP. Time may tell, though I'm left feeling that very few people will have actually changed how they feel about the BNP as a result of tonights programme, which I think would infact be a grave shame, in particular concerning all those who in June saw fit to vote for them.
